Hello, everyone, and happy spring/almost summer! This topic is a little out of the norm of what I usually write about, but today I decided I wanted to give a brief summary of what my experience has been so far being in an interracial relationship. Check it out!
My boyfriend, Mateo, and I have been together for about 9 months now, and it’s been pretty awesome! I know some people may think there are some huge differences being in an interracial relationship compared to a same race/nationality type of relationship, but there really aren’t! Almost everything is fairly the same.
Mateo is European and Hispanic (Mexican to be exact), and I am African American. We tend to get quite a bit of stares when we are out in public, but I try not to pay attention to them because those stares do not define or impact my relationship. However, I am positive not everyone is negatively staring at us, and that some people are just genuinely surprised to see something out of the norm.
As for physical commentary, we’ve had quite a bit of that too. Personally, I haven’t heard any very offensive comments about Mateo and I, but I have heard comments such as, “Oh, it’s a black and white couple,” or “Man (speaking to Mateo), you got yourself a black girl?? Alright then!” While these comments aren’t super offensive, they are also not necessary.
Also, I have heard some remarks about how I only go for “white guys” or how white men are my preference, which are also not true! I personally don’t like to limit myself to one race or one nationality when I am searching through the dating pool. There is nothing wrong with having a preference when dating, but always keep your options open! You never know who you might find.
Overall, I enjoy being in an interracial relationship, and I am also very happy. Honestly, as long as the person I’m dating treats me right, respects me, and cares for me, that’s all that is important. Happy Friday’s Eve, and there will be more fashion posts to come! Also, I will share my experience on modeling 🙂 Feel free to leave any questions or comments!
